Afternoon cotton trading brought futures back down from triple digit midday gains. The afternoon fade did not take back all of the gains as prices were still 25 to 37 points in the black at the close. Data for cotton consumption at mills in July was withheld by USDA due to confidentiality rules for the 4th consecutive month. Cotton stocks on July 25 were 1,561 RBs. That was up 3.2% from June but remained less than half of 2019’s stockpile. Monday sales on the online cotton trading platform The Seam were 533 bales at a gross average priec of 54.08 cents/lb. The Cotlook A index for August 28 was 71.10 cents/lb, down 25 points. The AWP for cotton for the week is 50.50 cents/lb, with a 1.5 cent LDP.
